Quite frankly, he should make haste to remove it, if he doesn’t want someone else in this roistering shithole to do it for him; it’s worth more than what all the White Horse’s patrons make in a year. Yet for all that, he’s not uncomely, and Hob is not uninterested, or unwilling, if that possibility is on the table. Just to check, he flashes a dazzling smile at the stranger, which is not returned; he is as unreadable as a statue. But he is no statue, he is a man, and his voice is uncommonly deep as he speaks: “Did I hear you say,” the pale stranger asks, “that you have no intention of ever dying?” Hob Gadling shrugs. No point in denying it. “Yeah.”
